Lobbes Abbey

Lobbes Abbey was a Benedictine monastery on the Sambre in Hainaut, in present-day Belgium, founded in the seventh century by Saint Landelin. In the tenth and eleventh centuries it was one of the leading centres of learning in Lotharingia, under abbots such as Folcuin and Heriger. It was suppressed after the French invasion of the 1790s; its Romanesque church of Saint Ursmer survives.
