Long Recess
The Long Recess (Langer Rezess) of 1529 was an agreement between the council and citizens of Hamburg concluded with the introduction of the Reformation. It gave the propertied citizens, organised by parish, a share in government beside the council, including a say over taxation and church affairs. It remained a basis of the city's constitution for centuries.
