Ma'an

Also known as Maan

Ma'an is a city in southern Jordan on the old caravan and pilgrimage route between Syria and the Hejaz, later served by the Hejaz Railway. In November 1920 Abdullah, son of Sharif Husayn of Mecca, arrived there with his followers, the first step towards founding the Emirate of Transjordan. It is the capital of the Ma'an Governorate, which includes Petra.
