Mahón
Mahón, or Maó, is the capital of Menorca in the Balearic Islands, Spain, set at the head of one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean. Known in antiquity as Mago, it is traditionally said to have been founded by the Carthaginians, and in 418 Bishop Severus described the forced conversion of its Jews. Its harbour made it a prize for Britain, which held Menorca for much of the 18th century and made Mahón the island's capital.
