Mahodayapuram
Mahodayapuram, also called Makotai, was the capital of the Chera Perumals of Kerala from about the 9th to the early 12th century. It lay near modern Kodungallur in Thrissur district, around Tiruvanchikulam, and housed the royal court, temples and an astronomical observatory associated with the astronomer Shankaranarayana. After the end of Perumal rule around 1124, Kerala split into principalities such as Venad, Kolathunadu and Kozhikode.
