Kerala

Kerala is a state on the Malabar Coast of south-western India, where Malayalam is spoken. It was formed in 1956 from Travancore-Cochin and the Malabar district of Madras, and its capital is Thiruvananthapuram. For two thousand years its ports traded spices with the Mediterranean, the Middle East and China, and in 1957 it elected one of the world's first communist state governments.
