Thiruvananthapuram, formerly Trivandrum, is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala, near the southern tip of India. It grew around the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and became the capital of Travancore in the late 18th century, when the court moved there from Padmanabhapuram. It was then the capital of Travancore-Cochin from 1949 and of Kerala from 1956.
