Keraites

12th century · 12th century · Also known as Keraits

The Keraites were a powerful Turco-Mongol tribal confederation of central Mongolia in the 12th century, many of whom followed the Church of the East. Their ruler Toghrul, known as Ong Khan, was an early patron and ally of Temüjin, the future Genghis Khan, but the two fell out, and Temüjin defeated the Keraites in 1203 and absorbed them into the Mongol nation.
