Amoghavarsha I

c. 800–878 · 9th century

Amoghavarsha I was the longest-reigning Rashtrakuta emperor, ruling the Deccan from 814 to 878. He founded the capital Manyakheta, was a patron of Jain teachers such as Jinasena, and is credited with the Kavirajamarga, the earliest surviving work on Kannada poetics, and the Sanskrit Prashnottara Ratnamalika. His long reign was marked more by cultural flowering than by conquest.
