Chalukya dynasty

Also known as Chalukyas

The Chalukya dynasty ruled large parts of southern and central India between the 6th and 12th centuries. The Chalukyas of Badami, founded by Pulakeshin I around 543, dominated the Deccan until the Rashtrakutas overthrew them in 753; the Western Chalukyas of Kalyani revived their power from 973 to about 1189, while an Eastern Chalukya line ruled Vengi. Their temples at Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal are landmarks of Indian architecture.
