Balhara

9th–10th century · 9th century

Balhara was the name by which Arab travellers and geographers of the ninth and tenth centuries, such as Sulaiman the Merchant, Ibn Khordadbeh and al-Masudi, referred to the Rashtrakuta kings of the Deccan. It is generally explained as a corruption of the royal title Vallabharaja. These writers counted the Balhara among the four great kings of the world and praised his friendliness to Arab merchants.
