Kerameikos

Also known as Ceramicus

The Kerameikos was the potters' quarter of ancient Athens, lying on both sides of the city wall north-west of the Acropolis, and the site of the city's main cemetery. Its graves, excavated since the nineteenth century, provide a continuous record from the Bronze Age onwards, including Protogeometric and Geometric pottery, and it held the state burials of the war dead.
