Iron Age

from c. 1200 BCE · 13th century BCE

The Iron Age is the period in which iron replaced bronze as the main metal for tools and weapons, beginning in the eastern Mediterranean and Near East around 1200 BCE and reaching northern Europe several centuries later. Its dates differ by region. In the histories of Levantine cities, Greek poleis, Iberian and British peoples and Scandinavian districts it marks the age of hillforts, new kingdoms and the first written records.
