Irnerius

c. 1050 – after 1125 · 11th century

Irnerius was an Italian jurist who taught Roman law at Bologna in the early 12th century and is regarded as the founder of the Bologna school of glossators. His glosses on Justinian's Corpus Juris Civilis revived the systematic study of Roman law, which drew students from all over Europe and helped make Bologna the first university town of the West.
