Kodungallur

Also known as Cranganore

Kodungallur is a town in Thrissur district, Kerala, near the mouth of the Periyar river on the Malabar Coast of India. Known to Europeans as Cranganore, it lies near the site of Mahodayapuram, capital of the Chera Perumals from the 9th to the 12th century, and many scholars locate the ancient Indo-Roman port of Muziris nearby. Tradition makes it the landing place of St Thomas the Apostle and the home of early Jewish and Muslim communities.
