Palma

Also known as Palma de Mallorca

Palma is the capital of Mallorca and of the Balearic Islands, Spain, on a wide bay on the island's south-west coast. Founded as a Roman town after 123 BCE by Quintus Caecilius Metellus, it became Madina Mayurqa under Muslim rule and the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca after James I of Aragon captured it in 1229. Its Gothic cathedral, La Seu, the Almudaina palace and Bellver Castle date from that era.
