Mallorca

Also known as Majorca

Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest of the Balearic Islands in the western Mediterranean, with its capital at Palma. Home to the Talaiotic culture in prehistory, it was conquered by Rome in 123 BCE and ruled by Muslim dynasties from 902, including the Banu Ghaniya. James I of Aragon conquered it in 1229 and made it the centre of the Kingdom of Majorca, and it now forms part of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands.
