Barcelona
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second-largest city of Spain, on the Mediterranean coast between the Llobregat and Besòs rivers. Founded as the Roman colony of Barcino, it was taken by the Franks in 801 and became the seat of the counts of Barcelona, whose union with Aragon in 1137 created the Crown of Aragon. It later grew into a leading port and industrial city.
