Barcelona May Days
The Barcelona May Days were street fighting in Barcelona from 3 to 8 May 1937 between anarchists and the POUM on one side and Republican and Communist forces on the other. They began when police tried to take over the CNT-held telephone exchange, and several hundred people were killed. The outcome weakened the anarchists, brought down Largo Caballero's government and led to the suppression of the POUM.
