Ma'mun Al Rasyid Perkasa Alam
Ma'mun Al Rasyid Perkasa Alam was sultan of Deli, on the east coast of Sumatra, from 1873 to 1924. His reign coincided with the boom of the Dutch-supervised tobacco plantations, whose land rents made the sultanate rich. He used this wealth to build the Maimun Palace and the Great Mosque of Medan, which remain the main monuments of the city.
