Mandu

Also known as Mandavgad

Mandu is a ruined fortress city on a plateau of the Vindhya range in Madhya Pradesh, India. The sultans of Malwa made it their capital from the early 15th century and adorned it with palaces, mosques and tombs, including Hoshang Shah's marble tomb, the Jahaz Mahal and the Jama Masjid. After the Mughal conquest of 1561 it declined, and it is now a protected archaeological site.
