Akbar

r. 1556–1605 · 16th century

Akbar was the third Mughal emperor, reigning from 1556 to 1605. He expanded the empire across most of northern and central India and built an efficient administration based on the mansabdari system and a reformed land revenue. His policy of religious tolerance and alliances with Rajput rulers made him one of the most important figures in the Mughal Empire.
