Akechi Mitsuhide
Akechi Mitsuhide was a Japanese general in the service of Oda Nobunaga. In June 1582 he turned on his lord and attacked him at the Honnō-ji temple in Kyoto, where Nobunaga died. Within two weeks Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated him at the Battle of Yamazaki, and he was killed while fleeing, clearing Hideyoshi's path to power.
