Honnō-ji

Also known as Honno-ji

Honnō-ji is a Buddhist temple of the Hokke (Nichiren) school in Kyoto. On 21 June 1582 Oda Nobunaga, lodging there with few guards, was attacked by his general Akechi Mitsuhide and died as the temple burned, an event known as the Honnō-ji Incident. The temple was later rebuilt on a new site by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
