Toyotomi Hideyoshi

Toyotomi Hideyoshi was a Japanese warlord who rose from humble origins to complete the unification of Japan in the late sixteenth century, succeeding Oda Nobunaga. He conducted a nationwide land survey, disarmed the peasantry and launched invasions of Korea in the 1590s. Accounts of the Tokugawa Shogunate discuss his legacy as part of the foundation on which Tokugawa Ieyasu built his regime.
