Battle of Yamazaki

1582 · 16th century

The Battle of Yamazaki was fought in July 1582 near Yamazaki, between Kyoto and Osaka, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi defeated Akechi Mitsuhide, who had killed Oda Nobunaga at the Honnoji temple less than two weeks earlier. Mitsuhide was killed while fleeing, and Hideyoshi's swift revenge made him the leading figure among Nobunaga's successors.
