Marimekko

1951 · 20th century

Marimekko is a Finnish textile, clothing and design company founded in Helsinki in 1951 by Armi and Viljo Ratia. Its bold printed fabrics, above all Maija Isola's Unikko poppy pattern of 1964, became internationally famous in the 1960s, helped by Jacqueline Kennedy wearing its dresses, and the firm remains a symbol of Finnish modern design.
