Kosovo

Kosovo is a landlocked region in the central Balkans, with its capital at Pristina and a large Albanian majority. It was a heartland of medieval Serbia and the scene of the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, then part of the Ottoman Empire until the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913. After the war of 1998–1999 it came under United Nations administration, and it declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
