Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria, on the Danube, and was for centuries the seat of the Habsburg monarchy. It withstood Ottoman sieges in 1529 and 1683, the second of which was broken with the help of a Polish-Lithuanian relief army under Jan III Sobieski. As capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire it became a centre of art, music and modern thought, and it hosted the Congress of Vienna of 1814–1815.
