Vienna Awards

1938–1940 · 20th century

The Vienna Awards were two arbitrations by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy that returned territory to Hungary. The First Vienna Award of 2 November 1938 gave Hungary southern Slovakia and part of Carpathian Ruthenia from Czechoslovakia, and the Second Vienna Award of 30 August 1940 gave it northern Transylvania from Romania. Both were annulled by the peace treaties of 1947.
