Romania
Romania is a country in south-eastern Europe, formed in the nineteenth century from the union of the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia. After the First World War it was greatly enlarged with territories, including Transylvania, taken from the dissolved Austro-Hungarian Empire. Its lands were earlier part of the cultural and religious sphere of the Byzantine Empire, as accounts of the Byzantine Empire note.
