Romani people
The Romani people, or Roma, are an ethnic group whose ancestors left north-western India around a thousand years ago and reached Europe by the 14th century. Long subject to discrimination, enslavement in Wallachia and Moldavia, and expulsions, they were targeted for genocide by Nazi Germany and its allies in the Second World War, when hundreds of thousands were murdered. They are Europe's largest ethnic minority.
