Belgrade
Belgrade is a city at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, now the capital of Serbia. A key frontier fortress controlling the route into central Europe, it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire under Suleiman the Magnificent in 1521. The capture opened the way for the Ottoman victory at Mohács in 1526 and later campaigns against Vienna.
