Battle of Kosovo

1389 · 14th century

The Battle of Kosovo was fought on 15 June 1389 on the Kosovo field near Pristina between a Serbian-led coalition under Prince Lazar and the Ottoman army of Sultan Murad I. Both rulers were killed, and although the outcome was not immediately decisive, Serbia soon became an Ottoman vassal. The battle became a central theme of Serbian epic poetry and national memory.
