Ankara
Ankara, the ancient Ancyra, is the capital of Turkey, on the central Anatolian plateau. Galatian Celts settled there in the 3rd century BCE, and it became the capital of the Roman province of Galatia, where the Temple of Augustus preserves the best surviving copy of the Res Gestae. Mustafa Kemal made it the centre of the national movement in 1920 and the capital of the republic in 1923.
