Novo Brdo

Novo Brdo is a fortress and mining town in eastern Kosovo. From the early 14th century it was one of the richest silver and gold mines in the Balkans, worked by Saxon miners and trading through Ragusa, and it financed the medieval Serbian state. The Ottomans captured it in 1455 after a siege, and its mines then declined.
