Meenakshi of Madurai
Meenakshi was the last ruler of the Madurai Nayak dynasty, governing as queen from the early 1730s after the death of her husband Vijaya Ranga Chokkanatha. Disputes over the succession drew in the Nawab of the Carnatic, whose officer Chanda Sahib seized Tiruchirappalli and imprisoned her in 1736. She is said to have taken poison, and the Nayak kingdom passed to the Carnatic nawabs.
