Meskwaki
The Meskwaki, called the Fox by the French, are an Algonquian-speaking Indigenous people of the western Great Lakes, closely related to the Sauk. In the early 18th century they fought the Fox Wars against France and its Indigenous allies, including the Illinois, which cost them heavily. Allied with the Sauk, they later moved west, and their descendants form the Meskwaki Nation in Iowa and belong to the Sac and Fox nations.
