Misiones Province
Misiones is a province of north-eastern Argentina, a narrow territory between Paraguay and Brazil whose name recalls the Jesuit missions founded among the Guaraní in the 17th century, such as San Ignacio Miní. After the Jesuits were expelled in 1767 the region was disputed, and in the 1810s it joined the Federal League of José Gervasio Artigas. Its capital is Posadas, and it contains the Iguazú Falls.
