Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is a port city on the estuary of the Río de la Plata, first founded by Pedro de Mendoza in 1536 and refounded by Juan de Garay in 1580. It became the capital of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1776 and led the May Revolution of 1810. Rivalry between the city and the other provinces shaped Argentine politics for most of the 19th century.
