Momine Khatun Mausoleum

1186 · 12th century

The Momine Khatun Mausoleum is a ten-sided brick tomb tower in Nakhchivan, completed in 1186 by the architect Ajami Nakhchivani for Momine Khatun, wife of the atabeg Eldiguz, on the orders of her son Jahan Pahlavan. Covered in carved geometric ornament, turquoise glaze and Kufic inscriptions, it still stands about 25 metres high and is the best-known monument of the Nakhchivan school of medieval architecture.
