Moskva River
The Moskva River is a river of western Russia, about 470 kilometres long, which rises on the Smolensk–Moscow Upland and flows east through Moscow to join the Oka at Kolomna. The city of Moscow grew on its banks from a small settlement first mentioned in 1147, and control of the river and its route towards the Oka and the Volga helped the early princes of Moscow extend their power.
