Nicholas the Child

d. 1314 · 14th century · Also known as Nicholas I of Rostock

Nicholas the Child was the last lord of Rostock, on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg. Pressed by his Mecklenburg cousins and the town's own ambitions, he placed himself under Danish protection in 1300. When he died without a son in 1314, the lordship passed under the control of King Eric VI of Denmark and was later absorbed into Mecklenburg.
