fl. 965 · 10th century

Niketas Chalkoutzes was a Byzantine military commander of the 10th century. In 965, while the emperor Nikephoros II Phokas campaigned in Cilicia, he led an expedition that took Cyprus, ending three centuries of shared Arab and Byzantine rule over the island. Cyprus then remained in Byzantine hands until 1191.
