Orangists

Also known as Orange party

The Orangists were the political faction in the Dutch Republic that supported the princes of the House of Orange as stadtholders. In the 17th century they opposed the States party of the Holland regents, and in the 1780s the Patriots. Prussian intervention restored the Orangist stadtholder William V in 1787, but the French invasion of 1795 drove him into exile.
