Orok people

Also known as Uilta, Ulta

The Orok, who call themselves Uilta, are a small Tungusic people of Sakhalin in the Russian Far East, numbering a few hundred. Traditionally reindeer herders, hunters and fishers, they lived in the north and east of the island. Those in southern Sakhalin came under Japanese rule in Karafuto from 1905 and were pressed to assimilate.
