Osijek

Osijek is the largest city of the Slavonia region in eastern Croatia, on the Drava river near its confluence with the Danube. Successor to the Roman town of Mursa, it was held by the Ottomans from 1526 to 1687, after which the Habsburgs built the star-shaped fortress of Tvrđa. It became the administrative and economic centre of Slavonia.
