Parliament of Quillín

1641 · 17th century · Also known as Treaty of Quillín · Part of the Arauco War

The Parliament of Quillín was a peace meeting held in January 1641 between the Spanish governor of Chile, the Marquis of Baides, and Mapuche leaders. It recognised the Biobío River as the frontier between Spanish Chile and the independent Mapuche lands and allowed missionaries to work among them. It began a series of parlamentos that regulated relations between the two sides into the 19th century.
