Patria Boba

1810–1816 · 19th century · Also known as Foolish Fatherland

Patria Boba, the 'Foolish Fatherland', is the name given to the first period of independence in New Granada, present-day Colombia, from 1810 to 1816. Federalists of the United Provinces and centralists of Cundinamarca fought each other in civil wars instead of uniting against Spain. The period ended when Pablo Morillo's expedition reconquered the country and executed many patriot leaders.
