Place Ducale

1606–1628 · 17th century

The Place Ducale is the central square of Charleville, now Charleville-Mézières in the Ardennes, France. It was built between 1606 and about 1628 for Charles of Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers, as the heart of his new capital, with uniform arcaded houses of brick and stone on the model of the Place Royale, now the Place des Vosges, in Paris.
